Technic Breadboard Adapter

The Technic Breadboard Adapter

I frequently build projects connecting LEGO to external electronics, often using a solderless breadboard for prototype circuits. I've usually just attached the breadboard to a LEGO brick with double-sided tape. But here is a device that works and looks better, the Technic Breadboard Adapter. The breadboard surface, where electronic components are added, is flush with the frame for a neat appearance. The breadboard used here is the Mini Modular Breadboard, available at Sparkfun (www.sparkfun.com) in your choice of 5 different colors. These breadboards have tabs on 2 sides meant to join multiple breadboards together, but we've repurposed the tabs to hold the breadboard in the 3D printed adpater. So there's no need for screws or tape to hold the breadboard in place--it's a press fit. The breadboards delivered from Sparkfun come with double-sided tape on the bottom, which we've peeled off and discarded. If you would like to print your own adapter, send me an email (grady@hightechlego.com) for a free copy of the stl file. An example gcode image before printing is below. There are many color combinations possible if you print your own, such as the several we experimented shown at the bottom of the page. If you don't have a 3D printer, I have a few Technic Breadboard Adapters available for sale at $20 including the breadboard and shipping to the US.
